Malaysia & Singapore Culinary Journey

Malaysia and Singapore draw from the same culinary lineage, Malay, Chinese, Indian and colonial, yet each city lets you taste it differently. Over ten days and five cities, this cross-border journey traces that story as it unfolds, from Penang’s street-food lanes and Ipoh’s coffee shops to a hands-on cooking class in Kuala Lumpur, a Peranakan lunch in Malacca, and Singapore’s hawker centres, one continuous thread of how food carries a region’s culture & history.

Pass heritage shophouses and colonial buildings before continuing by private vehicle to St. George’s Church, the Goddess of Mercy Temple, Little India, the city’s street-art murals and the ornate Khoo Kongsi clan house. Walk the wooden stilt houses of Chew Jetty as the sea breeze cools the afternoon, then spend the evening at Gurney Drive, where Penang’s celebrated street-food scene comes alive over local favourites such as Assam Laksa and Char Koay Teow.

In the afternoon, ride the funicular railway up Penang Hill for sweeping views over George Town, then continue into the rainforest canopy of The Habitat, a nature park set within the Penang Hill Biosphere Reserve. Close the day at Kebaya, where a restored Peranakan mansion sets the stage for a refined dinner blending classic Baba-Nyonya flavours with French technique.

  • Day 4: Penang – Ipoh – Kuala Lumpur | Two Cities, Two Specialities

Depart Penang for Kuala Lumpur, breaking the journey in Ipoh to sample two of the city’s signature dishes: Ipoh Bean Sprouts Chicken, served with the city’s famously crisp bean sprouts, followed by a cup of Ipoh White Coffee at a traditional coffee shop. Continue south towards Kuala Lumpur, pausing for an exterior view of the Petronas Twin Towers before transferring to your hotel for a relaxed evening.

  • Day 5: Kuala Lumpur | Historic Landmarks and City Icons

Begin at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur’s historic heart, then walk to the Moorish-inspired Masjid Jamek at the confluence of two rivers. Continue to Central Market, a lively hub for local arts and handicrafts near Kasturi Walk, before visiting Thean Hou Temple in the afternoon, known for its tiered Chinese architecture and rows of red lanterns.

  • Day 6: Kuala Lumpur | Cooking Class and Chinatown

Spend the morning in a hands-on cooking class, learning to prepare Malaysian street-food favourites under the guidance of local chefs while discovering the spices, techniques and stories behind each dish, then enjoy lunch as your reward.
