Hong Kong Island

A centrepiece island steeped in colonial history and breathtaking modernity

Covering approximately seven percent of SAR’s territory, Hong Kong Island assumes a dramatic centre-stage in every sense of the word. This topographically diverse island is home to the earliest British colonial history and much of the city’s most definable sights and heritage attractions.

The densely packed urban strip along the northern shores is where the main entertainment and points of interest are had, set in a cluster of fabled districts like Wan Chai and Causeway Bay. The undisputed star is Central, the commercial, diplomatic and financial hub of Hong Kong SAR, where iconic skyscrapers tower over sparkling Victoria Harbour – one of the world’s most spectacular skylines. From here, Hong Kong Island rises precipitously to Victoria Peak, at 554m (1817ft)-high, the island’s loftiest point, historical landmark and most exclusive residential address. The less developed southern side offers a slower change of pace, where lush open spaces, charming coastal suburbs and serene beaches await.
