Taichung

The city of artists and performers

Located along the centre of Taiwan’s western coastline, Taichung is a metropolis bursting with cultural activity. Originally conceived as a new regional capital for the province of Taiwan, the city first emerged at the end of the 19th century and has, since then, grown into a powerhouse of artistic endeavours. Today, it is home to the National Taichung Theatre and its vast, alien halls, the delightful Zhongshe Flower Market, and Caihongjuan Village, an artistic community that has decorated every façade of its home. Among these and many other sites, Taichung is fast becoming a favourite destination, a feat in no small part aided by the local food scene and Fengjia, one of Taiwan’s largest night markets.
