The Trail to Angkor Just Got Smoother. Cambodia scraps Covid tests for all visitors

The Royal Government of Cambodia announced today that Cambodia officially would dispense with the requirement for all visitors to take Covid-19 tests. The Prime Minister added, “Because the country has one of the highest vaccination rates (over 92% of the population) they were relaxing most restrictions to spur tourism and investment”.

The simplified rules are:

  1. Waiving the requirement for the negative Covid-19 PCR test result prior to arrival in Cambodia.
  2. Waiving the requirement for the Rapid Antigen Test upon arrival in Cambodia.
  3. Re-opening the Visa-On-Line service for all international visitors arriving by air, land or sea.

All visitors must present proof of vaccination recognized by the authorities in their respective countries. However, those unable to show proof of vaccination would need to be remain in quarantine for 14 days after arrival.

A Ministry of Health spokesperson added that all visitors should still test themselves with Rapid Tests to ensure their own health and the safety of others.

This is a welcome announcement, as Cambodia was the first country in SE Asia that previously opened their borders to tourism. Coupled with border openings of neighbouring countries such as Vietnam and Thailand, means that foreign visitors now have access to more of the region.

Trails of Indochina has a strong presence in Cambodia and the country presents many tourism options beyond the main draw of the Angkor complex.
